Calcium hydroxide is a fine white powder commonly known as hydrated lime or hydrated lime. It has no odor, a slightly bitter taste, and is slightly soluble in water. After adding water, it forms two layers: upper and lower. The upper layer of water solution is called clear lime water, which can be used to test carbon dioxide; The lower suspended liquid is called lime milk or lime slurry and can be used as building materials.

Calcium hydroxide is made by digesting calcium oxide (quicklime) with water, drying, sieving, and air separation (or crushing), and easily absorbing carbon dioxide in the air to become calcium carbonate (limestone). Calcium hydroxide has a wide range of applications in industry, as a commonly used building material and also used as a fungicide and chemical raw material.

1、 Sewage treatment:

Calcium hydroxide can neutralize free acids and acidic salts in wastewater when used. Calcium hydroxide is used in wastewater, where the hydroxide ions in calcium hydroxide can react with metal ions to produce insoluble precipitates. It can also adjust the pH value of the wastewater to alkaline, which can better precipitate metal hydroxides.

2、 Agriculture:

It is used in agriculture to reduce soil acidity and improve soil structure.

3、 Smoke desulfurization:

Mainly used to neutralize acidic gases such as sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, and a small portion of fluoride ions and chloride ions, to ensure that the sulfur content of the emitted flue gas meets environmental standards.

4、 Sugar making process:

During the sugar making process, calcium hydroxide is used to neutralize the acid in the syrup, and then carbon dioxide is introduced to transform the remaining calcium hydroxide into a precipitate and filter it out, in order to reduce the sour taste of the sugar.

5、 Coatings:

Calcium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to produce calcium carbonate, which can aid in coagulation.

6、 Metallurgical industry:

In this industry, in order to coat the metal surface, impurities (including metal oxides) on the surface of the metal plate need to be removed first, so dilute sulfuric acid needs to be used for removal. The wastewater generated during the production process needs to be neutralized with calcium hydroxide.

7、 Leather manufacturing industry:

Mainly used in the leather manufacturing industry for leather combing process.

8、 Refractory materials:

When producing silicon bricks, calcium hydroxide can be used as an additive to enhance the strength and viscosity of the bricks. Silicon bricks are made from silica with a SiO4 content of not less than 96% as the raw material, with the addition of mineralizers (such as iron scales, lime milk) and binders (such as molasses and sulfite pulp waste). They are then mixed, formed, dried, and fired.

9、 In terms of food:

Due to its strong activity and loose structure, calcium hydroxide is widely used as a food additive.

10、 Medical use:

Medicine has shown that calcium deficiency in the human body can cause a series of physiological problems, such as hypertension, osteoporosis, stones, and other diseases. Calcium hydroxide can be used as a synthetic calcium agent and the main raw material for calcium cyclopropanate and calcium lactate.

11、 Organic biosynthesis:

Used for the synthesis of high-tech biomaterials such as HA and the synthesis of feed additive VC phosphate.

12、 Animal husbandry:

Used for disinfection and antibacterial purposes in breeding farms, to maintain a hygienic breeding environment.

13、 Rubber process:

Used for processing rubber technology to make it easier to shape, improve product hardness, increase product volume, and reduce costs.

14、 Paper industry:

Used to remove impurities and bleach from pulp, prevent paper deterioration, etc.
